Dennis Callaci is a pioneer of the lo-fi tape culture movement of the 90's with his Shrimper label and a co-founder of the band Refrigerator, one of the best bands of the 90's! He's also a poet and novelist.

L. EUGENE METHE (pronounced meth-e) is a sub-underground DIY lifer. At age 17, Methe started performing at bars in Omaha, Nebraska, fronting a band with six guitars, bass and drums that sounded like a disparate mix of the Spacemen 3 and Henry Mancini. Methe has since released dozens of recordings on numerous labels, moving in a variety of musical directions. He also owns and curates Gertrude Tapes, a label that since 2003 has released experimental vinyl and cassettes in small editions. Its eclectic roster includes artists Dan Melchior, Linda Smith and Nancy Andrews, Dennis Young (Liquid Liquid), Zach Rowden, Mary Staubitz and Russ Waterhouse, A.F. Jones, and others.

Recorded in 2023 and 2024 in Claremont, CA and Omaha, NE. Mastered by A.F. Jones at Laminal Audio.

Music, more than ever, is a commodity; you’ve got to churn out hits and content to keep the algorithm happy, unless, you’re like Dennis Callaci and L. Eugene Methe. These two songwriters approach songwriting in a different fashion, pushing aside trends and genre studies to push for a purity. Today, we bring you news that the two have collaborated on a joint venture titled The Last Chance Lottery, where Methe handles the music and Callaci handles the vocals and wordsmithing. L. Eugene Methe’s craft can immediately set you on edge, beckoning from shadowy corners of harrowing atmospherics; this is furthered by Dennis’ performance, almost scratching at the speakers with the way his voice haunts the listener from the confines of what feels like a very cramped little space. It’s a captivating introduction to the LP, which arrives via Gertrude/Shrimper Records on January 23rd. - Nathan Lankford, Austin Town Hall
